The Buffalo Soldiers were African American soldiers who served in the U.S. army beginning in 1866, right after the Civil War. Congress created segregated units-most notably the 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 24th and 25th infantry, made up of formerly enslaved men and free Black citizens. They were named "Buffalo Soldiers" by Native American tribes, likely because of their bravery, resilience, and possibly their dark, curly hair resembling buffalo fur. These soldiers played a major role in the American West.Despite facing harsh conditions, low pay, and racism. Buffalo Soldiers earned a reputation for discipline and courage. Many received Medals of Honor. Their legacy is one of perseverance, service, and a fight for dignity when they were often denied civil rights.

The Red Tails were African American fighter pilots of the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II. They got their nickname from the bright red tails painted on their fighter planes.
Flying escort missions for U.S. bombers over Europe, the Red Tails earned a legendary reputation for skill and discipline. Despite facing segregation and racism at home, they proved that Black pilots were just as capable as any others.
Their success helped pave the way for the desegregation of the U.S. military and left a lasting legacy of excellence, courage, and pride.
